Key Stage 4
At KS4 we students follow the Edexcel specification. During years 9 and 10 we further build on the understanding and knowledge students have learned in KS3, revisiting each of the 11 topic areas once each year. We aim to challenge and extend students throughout their mathematical journey and as such have developed 9 schemes of work which students will progress through dependent on their ability.
Throughout year 9 and 10 students will study:
Term 1
- Manipulating Algebra
- Arithmetic Ratio and Proportion
- Area, Perimeter and Volume
- Averages Charts and Graphs
Term 2
- Equations and Inequalities
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
- Probability
- Angles
Term 3
- Number properties
- Sequences and Graphs
- Transformations
Students are assessed regularly with topic tests at the end of each unit, end of term tests and end of year test encompassing all units of study.
During year 11 students follow a bespoke programme of study, revisiting areas that have been identified through QLAs (question level analysis) following PPEs (pre public examinations).
GCSE Assessment:
Students will complete 3 x 1.5 hour papers to determine their GCSE grade, 1 non calculator and 2 calculator papers
Students will either complete the foundation tier or the higher tier. The Foundation tier covers grade 5-1 and the Higher tier covers grades 9-3.
